Since July of 1899, Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse has provided an extraordinary play space for over 11 million visitors. In 2003 the Playground was closed for renovations. Since then two new play areas have been constructed and the famous Giant Wooden Slide has been renovated. In July 2008 Smith began the next phase of its renovation project.
Today, July 22, 2008 Smith started the next phase of renovations - replacing the 109 year old slate roof. On day one the construction company fenced off their work area in front of the Playhouse.
